Changing Your Perspective on Failure – 7 Ways How to Perceive Personal Failures

Many writers, based on their own experiences, expressed the universal truth that the only way to reach a worthwhile goal is through numerous failures and disappointments. This is the way how world works. Failures are the only way to learn enough to do it right in the end. So, if you are decisive to achieve something meaningful in your life, failures will come your way. It is how you react to failure that makes the difference between never reaching your goal and eventually reaching it. We have to learn to fail in order to learn to succeed. Therefore, changing your perspective on failures is crucial.

  1. Failure is unavoidable

It is the way world functions. If you want to achieve something, you will have to put up with few failures before you get there. It is obligatory. There is no way around it. Sooner you accept failures as unavoidable part of your journey, the easier becomes to deal with them. Be sure, failure will happen. And the more successful you are, the more frequently you will fail.

  1. Failure is an event, not a person.

When failure appears, we identify it as us. We relate the failure with ourselves. We internalize the failure to the degree that we emotionally attach it to ourselves. The message is clear: We are the failure. This is a wrong perspective. Failure is merely an event, not a person. Failure is never a person. It is nothing more than just a bad action that has occurred and it can be repeated and improved.

  1. Failure is a detour, not a dead-end street. (Zig Ziglar)

We should consider failures as a temporary setback, a detour. Otherwise, the first time you fail you think it is all over. It is not. Failure is like a delay, not a final result. A lost battle, not war. Unfortunately, we are inclined to equal the failure with a final defeat. If success is to be considered not as a destination but a journey, then failures are also not final.

  1. Let failure be your inspiration

We need to become a bit more stubborn and take failures as challenges. Robert T. Kiyosaki wrote that: “Failure defeats losers, failure inspires winners.” This is so true. Next time you fail, make it a personal challenge. Let the failure inspire you to do better, to be more intelligent next time. Failures may just be the motivation you need. Individuals who are able to constantly see failures as challenges are born winners. This skill allows them to welcome failures in their life and not to be bothered about them too much. It excites them to have another opportunity to learn, push stronger and work harder.

  1. Failure is an opportunity to learn

Failure should be our teacher. Every failure represents an opportunity to learn how not to do something or approach someone. If you do not fail, you can never know what will not work. As Humphrey Davy said: “The most important of my discoveries have been suggested to me by my failures.” Also, remember Thomas Edison and his light bulb.

  1. Failure is a trial and error.

Charles F. Kettering wrote that inventors treat their failures merely as practice shots – they may fail 999 times, but if they succeed once, they are in. We should always consider failures as trial and error activity on our path toward desired objective. Each attempt is just an exercise. Remember when trying to learn maths? It was trial and error. How about when your child was learning to walk? Trial and error. Imagine playing a game on your computer without a chance to start over again. Failure is never a “game over” mode. It is more like a “play again” mode.

  1. The only failure is not attempting

The only true failure is not trying. A comment from Wayne Gretzky best sums this idea: ” You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” I can hardly think of anything worth adding to this statement.

People are capable of amazing achievements, but only when they put failure into the right perspective. Changing your perspective on personal failures may significantly alter your life.

As you could notice, most of the above points I have learnt from reading quotes and sayings from different authors. These have thought me a lot about how to perceive failures and how to deal with them. Today, I consider failure as just another step toward my goals. Life became much easier to bear and an experience more pleasant than before.

Overcoming Failure

At first, do we know what a failure is? Do we know how it works? Do we know how and when failure ends? Can we prevail over failure? Can we drown in failure with no hopes? Can failure knock at your door again after saying goodbye?

I will answer all the questions above within my own understanding, and I hope it works for those that have been looking for answers to these kind of questions.

Do we know what a failure is?

A failure is a total disorder of a perfected or finalized plan. It’s an unexpected condition, state or situation everybody doesn’t want to be friendly with. Failure could also be referred as “pain” and as the opposite of success. It’s undesirable and frustrating, its time is full of bitterness and sorrow. Failure could be considered as a way to success by another. We should learn and accept to understand that failure is part of nature, its universal and a must happen condition.

Do we know how it works?

Failure works in a very clumsy ways and gives a hard to understand feelings, it dismantle and disorganize success. It works with success everywhere at any moment. It’s a hard to get when failure is manipulating your success, You can only notice it after it’s mission has been accomplished. Failure is strongly a stepping stone toward success. When you fail, you are tend to diagnose or review the reasons behind your failure. I will give you a brief illustration for a proper or adequate understanding. A doctor would never treat a patient without knowing the causes of illness. The “Causes” are the reasons, “Illness” is the failure, “patient” is you, and the “treatment” is the amendment and rectification. Everybody are subjected to be healthy(successful), but I don’t want to know how 100% healthy you may be, it is a necessity that we “MUST” fall sick(failure). However, illness and failure are bound to happen because they are part of nature’s element, there is no way we can run away from it. Thus, nature can not be cheated and you can not escape from it.

Do we know how and when failure ends?

Apparently Yes! You can only know how failure ends after you have examined the reasons behind your failure and have determine to fill in the gap where failure has occupied. And definitely as soon as you implement your new upgraded plan and strategy you will surely know when failure is going to say goodbye to you.

Can we prevail over failure?

Oh Yes! We can. Everyone knows how this can be done, you just have to be courageous and vigilant, do not let failure wear you down. We are stronger than nature, we control it, but we live with it. You may have new professional plan to eliminate failure, but if you do not apply courage it will never work. Your courage must be strong, it’s your foundation — A building without a strong foundation is like a house built on a swampy ground. Failure preys on weakness. The only way to prevail over failure is to be courageous, bold and vigilant with the new upgraded strategy in support like I have previously said.

Can we drown in failure with no hopes?

No, never. We can not drown in failure with no hopes. We should learn to treat failure as a common headache, “the downfall of a man is not the end of his life.” Life and struggle continue, “hopes” exist and lives in struggle. We human are tend and believe to hope in something, even when things are in the worst position. With hope, you can find a way to get over failure. If you have no vision for hope, there is no way you can get over failure. I am so much sure everybody are mandatory to be successful. Therefore, you should have hope whenever you are drowning in failure. Trial and error is a good thing to start with until it turns to trial and success. When everything falls apart keep trying again and again, don’t get tired of it, just continue to do it and keep your hope stable and you will harvest from it when it’s ripe.

Can failure knock at your door again after saying goodbye?

Yes, it may knock again, just as I have said earlier, failure preys on weakness. Whenever you start to get weak, failure will come knocking you door with trials. You have to reverse trial and error to failure, do not let failure do that to you. Remember, you are stronger than nature, and you control it. Whenever you get weaker in failure’s trials, the door will be abundantly open for failure to come in again, and it will surely wear you down. You have to be strong at all cost and everyday of your life which I would referred as hard-working. Whenever you are hard-working you will always be successful and prosperous. DO NOT give failure a slimy chance to knock at your door again.

I hope my answers works for you.
